We’re lucky enough to be placed in a ministry location that
is about 6 miles away from the beach!!
But my friends, the trip to the beach is no easy feat. Bishop Maurice had pull make some
special arrangements for the trip that turned into an interesting adventure.
1st: Bishop had to call a man he knew to borrow a
truck to transport us in. The
truck needed to be push started!
Half of the group had push the truck and once it started.. ..let’s just
say that it wasn’t a hybrid, very heavily polluted exhaust.
2nd: The truck was VERY high.. because we were
standing in the back of the truck, we had to dodge branches, trees, and other
types of nature in order to avoid severe injury. It was hilarious! It was a challenge because you constantly
had to be paying attention so that you wouldn’t get clothes-lined with an
African tree branch. We’re on
bumpy, dirt roads filled with pot holes might I add. Bill had great advice, “bend your knees a little so you can
absorb the shock.
3rd: We finally get to the beach after about 20
minutes of trying to stay alive.
BUT we were not to the sand quite yet. We had to climb over a massive sand dune to see the
water. We spent about 5 minutes to
the top of the dune and the anticipation was killing everyone at this point
because we JUST WANTED TO SEE THE WATER.
4th: We get to the top and the water is brown and
the beach has trash on it. I will
admit that I was a little disappointed at first. BUT the reason why the water was brown because it was the
rainy season and the rivers were dumping in. After a little warming up to the atmosphere, I found the
beauty in it all. The waves were
very rough but it felt amazing to swim.
We spent the afternoon enjoying the sand and even played some soccer.
